I had the Q6600 and found a large difference in the BETA when I moved to I5. |
I've wanted to get an i5/i7 for a while, but can't justify the cost yet. My Q6600 is overclocked from 2.4 to 3.2 (I have a G0 stepping), which puts it about in the same performance range as the lower end i5s, and about 20-25% slower than an i7 920 at stock clocks.
I've decided to wait for these 3 things before I upgrade my Mobo/CPU
-USB 3.0
-Sata 6gbps
-6 core i7
Probably going to be saving up all year, including my tax return, so by Xmas I should be building a pretty nice rig; hopefully with all the things above included
This game is definitely a CPU hog, but there's no reason to leave my GTX260 at around or less than 50% utilization when I'm pushing 47fps. There was definitely a performance gain from the Beta, but I'm hoping for more. That may come in the form of driver tweaks. Unfortunately, the latest Nvidias got rolled back due to that automatic fan speed control issue, so they're probably going to be double/triple checking their next release, which means more delays.
Ah well, patience is a virtue, right? |

I can't even find that second one on the charts and the first one takes DDR3 so you'd have to spend another 100+ bucks on memory.
Fry's usually has new deals every Tuesday and Friday.. keep watching the ads.
Also always check the CPU charts as you want to get as much CPU as you can.. http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_list.php _________________

| I can't see anyone with an 8800 GTS getting anywhere near 60fps in BC2 during heavy gunfire, but that's still one hell of a deal! |
